Most of the route passes through woodland, boasting great views of the lake and surrounding peaks. Also worth a stop on the way is Boscondon Abbey, built in the 12th century.
Pass the Ferme de Thétys and descend through the undergrowth, taking in the view of the Aiguilles de Chabrières. Discover the history and architecture of Boscodon Abbey

Take a break at the Fontaine des Miracles picnic area before heading back to Pontis.

An unforgettable horse ride in the heart of nature!

Description

  1. Continue on the GRP and, at Thozans (fountain), turn right and descend the first stony, damp path on the left for a series of shortcuts to Marlès, passing by La Ferme de Thétys (rocky) and skirting some old restored buildings.
  2. At Marlès, continue left, staying on the GRP. The road becomes a track (damp, with a passage near some potholes: danger!) and then a path boasting beautiful views of the Aiguilles de Chabrières. Then both incline and scenery change as you descend steeply into a pine forest.
    Once on the road, descend to the right, cross the bridge over the Boscodon stream until you reach Boscodon Abbey.
  3. Ascend towards Grand Clot on a gradually ascending forest track (off GR, GRP, PR).
  4. just before the Grand Clot car park, join the GRP and continue on the track for a short time before taking a right fork onto a grassy track (GRP, great views of Embrun, Savines, the bridge and the lake). Next, the path narrows and descends steeply through undergrowth with a few tight switchbacks and some stony slabs (!) until you reach a picnic area with a table, benches, tree, grass and a stream.
  5. Join the track (GRP) that leads back up to Pierre Arnoux: its lookout is well worth the detour (horses not allowed; leave them at the gate). Then continue on the forest track (GRP, with forestry information panels) towards Fontaine des Miracles, a picnic area and even a bivouac (hut, fountain, fire pit).
    Continue and cross the 04-05 "border".
  6. At Chastel, leave the GRP, pass the Serre Durian fountain and reach Pontis by the road on the left.
  • Departure : Gîte de la Draye

Recommandations

Equip yourself with an IGN Top 25 map and the digital route;
Well-trained horses (gradients, variable terrain, duration, changing climate);
Inquire before taking a shortcut;
Doable from mid-May to mid-October.
Herd protection dogs

In mountain pastures, protection dogs are there to protect the herds from predators (wolves, etc.).

When I hike I adapt my behavior by going around the herd and pausing for the dog to identify me.

Find out more about the actions to adopt with the article "Protection dogs: a context and actions to adopt".
